About the GCSE Biology
Biology is the study of all living things, from smallest to largest. The course is designed to develop a broad understanding of biological facts, providing a fantastic introduction to all aspects of biology. This home study GCSE course gives you the opportunity to learn about the science behind life, you will study the human body as well as the plant and animal kingdoms at every level from microscopic to larger life forms. Through this course you will look at the characteristics and variety of living organisms and at their structures and functions. Reproduction and inheritance will also be studied. The course is packed with plenty of examples, diagrams and explanations to aid your understanding and help you visualise the topics as you work through them. You will learn to select, organise and present information clearly and logically, using appropriate scientific terms and conventions.
Study of biology can also lead on to a variety of rewarding career paths. It is essential if you want to pursue a degree in medicine, biology, botany, zoology, or any other relevant branch. Moreover, the Biology studies include aspects of science that are relevant to everyday life and therefore appropriate for adult learning and the skills you learn through this course are valuable in a number of other careers.
Studying the AQA GCSE curriculum in biology is an appropriate qualification for distance learning in terms of teaching and receiving education and taking the formal examinations. Academic requirements: You don't need any previous qualifications to enrol in any of our GCSE courses, you just need some basic maths for this course. For student who needs some mathematics push or brush up, we have designed for them a short course in mathematics preparation to study before starting the course, that is to fill up any gap in maths basics skills. The course is most suitable to applicants who has studied KS3, grade 8 or equivalent

The GCSE in biology gives the student the opportunity to progress to the AS-level in biology. The second option is to add it together with another four GCSE subjects to qualify you to meet with the admission criteria of most of British university Foundation-years (the number of GCSE subjects needed for admission depends on each university requirements). Biology qualification allows you to progress smoothly to more specialised areas of science from medicine, biology, botany, zoology, or any other and more relevant branch.

Duration of the Biology GCSE Course
The duration of any of our GCSE courses is 16 months, however, student has the flexibility to finish it earlier. Each GCSE course would need approximately 300 study hours for each course; hence you may estimate the time needed for completing your course as below:
- For 16 months study plan: you would need 5 hours a week per each GCSE subject.
- For 12 months study plan: you would need 7 hours a week per 1 subject.
- For 9 months study plan: you would need about 10 hours a week per 1 subject.
For each of the cases above we have allowed for 8 weeks revision period before the exam which we strongly recommend in order to revise and practice past exams papers. Other factors to be taken into considerations when thinking of the duration needed to complete your course are things such as the number of subjects you study concurrently whether you are employed or fully dedicated to studying the courses, your initial English language skills in reading and writing and other life commitments.
It is very important for you to know that your formal exams are externally assessed; that means you won’t be examined by OBA when you complete your study but by the examiner board i.e. by AQA for this course. The marks you achieve in your formal exams counts by 100% toward your qualifications while the ongoing internal exams you take with OBA do not contribute towards your qualification marks.

Course fees do NOT include examinations or arrangement fees which required to sit for your formal exams and are paid for either the examination centre whether it is Pearson-Edexcel Examination Approved Centre or the British Council in your country of residence.
